It has been less than a month since the new Google Laptop was released and it seems they are succeeding. Surprisingly, Google Chromebooks reached the Top 5 Best Sellers in Amazon, achieving the 3rd position. The model of Google Laptop most sold is Samsung Series 5 3G Chromebook (Arctic White).
Who are buying the Chromebooks?
We think that corporations, schools and other government entities are probably buying them in the hundreds of thousands. If you have converted at least some of your staff or students to Google Docs and Gmail, moving them away from expensive-to-maintain traditional laptops based on Microsoft and Apple is a no-brainer. The life-cycle cost savings are dramatic, and dwarf any quibbling of whether or how much cheaper a Chromebook is to buy on day one.
Are these Real Statistics?
We believe that Google will have to wait for the real numbers to know if the Chromebook is successfully accepted or not. It’s true that Amazon cannot be the only parametrer to know about the Chromebook’s success, however, we think that Google can be pleased with these sales because, until now, they are only selling Chrome Laptops through Amazon and BestBuy (in US).
On the other hand, we have the Acer AC700 Chromebooks which are delayed. Consumers can order them on Amazon. However, according to Amazon, this device won’t even start to ship until mid-July 2011.
